The world’s first model-specific air filter kit for the Porsche 992 Carrera, -S, and -GTS!
Background
At the launch of the 992 generation, Porsche had already abandoned the naturally aspirated engine. From now on, all 911s are turbocharged, making this entry-level legend attractive even for those aiming for those higher horsepower numbers. Each car model presents its own challenges and prerequisites. While the principle is the same as always, the intercooler system layout is completely new on this platform compared to previous versions, and this also affects the air intake. Unlike previous versions, the 992 no longer has a common, single air filter for both turbochargers. The air intake is still located in the rear hatch, now shared with the intercooler ambient duct, but the air filters themselves and their housings are located inside each rear fender, thus better protected from the surrounding heat from the engine compartment. From the outside, this solution is more thoughtful, but there’s definitely room for improvement: we offer the do88 intake kit!

Considerations
The efficiency of a turbocharged engine is directly influenced by the intake air temperature (IAT) and the backpressure in the system. A crucial, yet often overlooked, aspect is ensuring sufficient airflow before the compressor to avoid over-pressure. Less vacuum and cooler air allow the turbo to produce greater mass, which ultimately means more air at the intake: in short, this means significant power gains. There are huge power gains to be made with a good induction system! Over our years in this industry, with countless hours of evaluation and development, we’ve seen a consistent connection between IAT, sufficient airflow to the compressor, and the impact this has on output. With this knowledge, it was clear to us from the start that we wanted to create a closed system that wasn’t affected by the surrounding temperature to the same extent as an open air filter. We also saw the potential for improvement beyond that provided by a panel filter adapted to the model.
The finished product
We began development by 3D scanning the entire designated area on the car. This allowed us to work with the products in our CAD environment using SolidWorks. The entire air filter system is optimized for airflow, and the radii and angles are reworked multiple times to achieve the best result! The finished product is verified with both Computer Flow Dynamics (CFD) and our Superflow SF1020 flow bench. Every effort is made to provide real, reliable data for you, the customer.
The do88 air filter kit is made from the highest quality vacuum-infused prepreg carbon fiber. It comes with CNC-machined connections to the turbo inlet pipes. To increase airflow, the kit truly utilizes all the space available within the car’s structure. The carbon housings are engineered to accommodate a large inverted cone filter from the renowned BMC, with their finest filter media on hand. The intake kit is held in place by a waterjet-cut stainless steel bracket. The DO88 air filter kit replaces the entire OE air filter box and is a true performance upgrade!
This kit also includes custom silicone hoses, engineered to ensure a perfect fit with the car’s air guides, which are shared with the intercoolers. This creates a completely sealed joint that prevents air from escaping. The hoses are available in a subtle matte black finish.
This kit contains everything needed to install it on a Carrera, Carrera S, or GTS. It is available in three different versions:
1. DO88 intake kit only with 66 mm connections to the OE turbo inlet hoses.
2. DO88 intake kit with 66 mm connections and 66 mm DO88 turbo inlet hoses.
3. DO88 intake kit with 80mm connections and 80mm turbo inlet hoses.
All three options provide improved airflow; see the diagram below the product images for details. The 80mm connection model will steal more inner fender clearance from the rear tires. Please consider this when/if further modifications are made to the vehicle.
We’re very proud of the performance upgrade this kit provides, especially on modified cars that require more oxygen, but even an otherwise strictly unmodified car will see improvements from the improved airflow!
