The OEM 997.2 Turbo plenum is T-shaped, meaning the airflow from the throttle body abruptly changes direction when split on each side of the intake manifolds. It makes sense to design a Y-shaped plenum rather than a “bank-into-the-wall” T-shape.
During the development process of this plenum, we spent a lot of time conducting flow simulations of the Y-shaped internal design. We ran flow simulations on our CAD system and actual tests on our SuperFlow SF-1020 flow bench using 3D printed models.
To realize this final design, we chose to use a freeform 3D casting. This construction adds significant performance, but not much extra weight. We designed the plenum exterior to add as little weight as possible to the plenum.
Weight of the do88 performance plenum: 0.66 kg (1.46 lbs). Weight of the OEM plastic tube: 0.27 kg (0.60 lbs). Weight of the competitor’s cast performance tube (IPD): 1.13 kg (2.49 lbs).
Please note that OEM parts were designed for the power level for which the car was originally built. An increase in power may cause the stock plenum to slow down the engine’s output. So, even on an engine with a software tune, the do88 performance plenum will provide a performance boost!
