We’re proud to introduce our newly designed plenum for the Porsche 991!
More response across the entire powerband!
Background
The OEM 991 plenum is T-shaped, meaning the airflow from the throttle body abruptly changes direction when split on each side of the intake manifolds. It makes sense to design a Y-shaped plenum instead of a T-shaped one!
Development
Starting with a complete 3D scan of the engine bay to identify structural limitations, we got to work. With experience gained with previous Porsche plenums, we quickly realized the need for a Y-shaped joint rather than the OE T-shaped plenum. From an airflow perspective, the Y-shape is more efficient as it distributes air more evenly and with less pressure drop. We chose, as usual, to make the plenum from cast aluminum because it allows for shapes that CNC machining cannot replicate, and for us, function always trumps form. Maximum airflow replaces the bling factor!
The do88 plenum
The plenum is designed with smooth, sweeping lines. Radii and angles have been revised and reworked several times. The connections are CNC-machined, and the plenum comes with custom-fit silicone tubing for optimal fit and durability. The improved airflow is verified using CFD (Computer Flow Dynamics) and on our Superflow SF1020 flow bench.
Eliminating restrictions for turbocharged air reaching the inlet will provide improved throttle response and performance improvements throughout the powerband!
