The original equipment (OE) part for the Porsche 964 Turbo intercooler is no longer in production and is not available for purchase. Finding used parts in good condition has become a challenge, with the few available often commanding a high price. The Porsche 964 Turbo, a true rarity and a classic sports car, has seen many of its lineage rebuilt and tuned over the years. Today’s owners aiming to restore their vehicles to a more original appearance face challenges, particularly because many aftermarket intercoolers, with their square sheet metal tanks, detract from the vehicle’s classic under-hood aesthetic, diminishing its elegance.
Our Solution
In response to these challenges, do88 developed an intercooler with the primary goal of replicating the original appearance as closely as possible. Our design ensures that all mounting points, air ducts, hose connections, and sensor ports are exactly where they should be, mirroring the original unit. Our intercooler has the same core structure as the original, with a Tube & Tube core. Our development used an intercooler from the exotic Porsche 964 Leichtbau as a template for all shapes and sizes. Not only did we strive to match the stock look, but our intercooler also outperforms the original in terms of cooling performance and pressure drop, ensuring that functionality doesn’t take a backseat to aesthetics.
Installation
Our intercooler is designed to bolt directly onto all 3.3-liter and 3.6-liter Porsche 964 Turbos, simplifying installation. Given the hand-built nature of these cars, adjustments to the intercooler brackets may be necessary to achieve the perfect fit. Fortunately, the OE intercooler brackets offer room for adjustment, which was likely already necessary off the production line, as the shape of the OE intercoolers we saw during this development process varied somewhat. However, these adjustments are minimal, ensuring owners can upgrade their cooling system without compromising the appearance. classic car or the integrity of the installation process.
