Filtration, airflow, and heat are key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.
Our do88 intake system was developed to provide the turbo with good filtration and an improved airflow path while maintaining low inlet temperatures. A design challenge for this B58 intake system is its location: it’s right next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly absorbs heat at this location in the engine bay.
High intake air temperatures are terrible for engine performance, as the turbo is supposed to generate boost with warm, less dense air. This is why a fully sealed intake system is the only way to ensure IATs are minimized. To prevent hot air from being drawn into the air filter, we designed a heat shield and cover that, along with rubber seals, ensure our system supplies the engine with pleasantly cool air. Our intake system uses the OE fresh air inlet duct, which supplies fresh air to the air filter.
Replacing the OE plastic intake tube, we designed a large 85 mm (3.3″) mandrel-bent aluminum tube that expands to 93 mm (3.7″) at the turbo inlet elbow. We took no shortcuts when designing the inlet tube; we chose the unusual 85 mm size to achieve the correct internal diameter for the MAF sensor. Many competitors sell kits with 89 mm (3.5″) inlet pipes, which are easy to find. However, the danger with an 89 mm pipe is that the MAF reading will be incorrect, resulting in a lean fuel mixture. It’s not uncommon to get a CEL (Check Engine Light) with this setup. Our intake pipe features a large, custom-designed air filter. The filter has a tightly woven cotton gauze for superior filtration. The filter is washable and reusable for optimal performance and a long life.
The original air filter box and turbo inlet pipe are designed with elements that minimize the noise produced by the turbo and air intake. Specifically, the factory intake pipe features a large muffler to ensure the turbo operates quietly. In contrast, our intake system is devoid of these noise-reducing elements, allowing you to hear the turbo spool and induction sound.

Large 85 mm Cotton Air Filter (3.3β) custom-designed with fine-mesh cotton gauze. The filter is delivered without filter oil, so we recommend applying cotton filter oil to the air filter to increase air filtration if you drive your car in dusty environments. You can use, for example, BMC filter oil with the part number “WAFLU250”.
Washable air filter for optimal performance and long life.
We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 km, using a universal cleaning product designed for cotton air filters. For example, you can use BMC washer fluid with the part number “WADET500”.
85mm (3.3″) aluminum inlet pipe with the correct internal diameter for the MAF sensor. This will prevent the CEL (Check Engine Light) that many competitive kits can provide.
