Filtration, airflow, and heat are key considerations when designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine.
Our do88 intake system was developed to provide the turbo with good filtration and an improved airflow path while maintaining low inlet temperatures. A design challenge for this B48/B46 intake system is its location: it’s right next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly absorbs heat at this location in the engine bay.
High intake air temperatures are terrible for engine performance, as the turbo is supposed to build boost with warm, less dense air. This is why a fully sealed intake system is the only way to ensure IATs are minimized. A fully sealed system, however, presents a challenge because it involves a restriction with only a single stock air supply at the bottom of the air filter box to draw air from. During development, we noted that the system needed a secondary air supply to eliminate this restriction. Our sealed airbox also features a heat shield to minimize radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To ensure sufficient air volume around the filter, we designed a large 7-inch airbox that also leaves room for the struts.
To replace the stock intake pipe, we designed a large 102 mm (4″) mandrel-bent aluminum pipe combined with a custom-made silicone hose. Mounted on the intake pipe is our large, custom-designed air filter. The filter features a fine-mesh cotton gauze for superior filtration. It is washable and reusable for optimal performance and long life.
The original air filter box and turbo inlet pipe are designed with elements that minimize noise from the turbo and air intake. Specifically, the factory intake pipe features two mufflers to ensure the turbo operates quietly. In contrast, our intake system is devoid of these noise-reducing elements, allowing for a more audible turbo spool and induction sound.

The filter is delivered without filter oil, so we recommend applying cotton filter oil to the air filter to increase air filtration if you drive your car in dusty environments. You can use, for example, BMC filter oil with part number “WAFLU250”.
Washable air filter for optimal performance and long life.
We recommend cleaning the air filter every 10,000 km, using a universal cleaning product designed for cotton air filters. You can use, for example, BMC washer fluid with part number “WADET500”.
