The complete charge air cooling solution for the Porsche 997.2 Turbo / Turbo S
This kit comes at a flat rate and includes our motorsports intercooler and a high-flow Y-pipe with all hoses and installation hardware. To further improve engine breathing, you can purchase our compliant intake ducts along with these products.
The MERA intercooler kit and Y-pipe are excellent products on their own. Used together, they significantly reduce inlet temperature, resulting in lower backpressure throughout the system, and thus increased power.
– Cooler inlet air temperature under the same conditions: 37Β°C/98.6Β°F (55Β°C/131Β°F), 18Β°C/32.4Β°F lower. See diagram in additional product images.
– More air to your engine, less backpressure, and better airflow!
– Airflow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 771 CFM (564 CFM), 37% more! See diagram in additional product images.
– Premium, high-density motorsports Bar & Plate cores from Garrett.
– 3D-designed freeform cast end tanks.
– Custom-designed carbon fiber ambient air guides.
– Y-pipe made from 2.75″ (70mm) mandrel-bent aluminum tubing.
– Y-pipe made from a cast, slide-in manifold section.
– Comes with high-quality silicone hoses and installation hardware.
About intercoolers:
MERA as in plus, means more cooling, better airflow, more performance. Simply put, MERA!
When launching this intercooler kit in 2016, we chose to use a Tube & Fin core, which provides excellent cooling and airflow combined with reduced weight. It has proven itself very well over the years, featured on various 1,000 HP builds. Fall 2021 marks the next phase in the ongoing development of do88 products. After extensive testing, we’ve chosen to upgrade to a Bar & Plate, a race-grade Garrett core, thus taking this already highly effective upgrade to the next level.
Differences from our version Previous:
11Β°C lower IAT than our previous version.
19% higher airflow than our previous version.
New, lighter air duct made from real prepreg carbon.
3 kg weight increase per intercooler compared to previous DO88 intercoolers.
The core is new, but the end tanks and all accessories are the same as before. The intercoolers feature cast-end tanks that distribute airflow very precisely across the entire core. This is very important, as good tank design will benefit both pressure drop and cooling efficiency. To accommodate an intercooler of adequate thickness, a new upper ambient air guide also had to be designed. This was designed in our 3D scanned environment to ensure a perfect fit with the vehicle’s integrated air guides, as well as the intercooler. To further eliminate bottlenecks, the intercooler connections are 70 mm (2″) 3/4 inch) to allow unrestricted airflow. This also means new tubes are included for each location, all 3D designed with maximum airflow in mind. All tubes are CFD tested to ensure this. The turbo outlet tubes are made of high-temperature-spec material, rated at a continuous temperature of 240Β°C (464Β°F). To truly utilize all the heat-transferring ambient air, the carbon ducts are equipped with appropriate seals to the body, forcing all air to pass through the core and not leak around it.
All in all, the weight increase over the OEM units is relatively small considering the size of the intercoolers and the fact that they are a dense, all-aluminum structure. Our intercooler weighs 8.45 kg (18.10 lb) per piece, and the OEM 997.2 intercooler weighs 3.30 kg (7.27 lb) per piece. As much as it may seem in terms of weight gain, it is more Which is well worth it when you consider the performance gains these intercoolers provide!
About the Y-Pipe:
Presented to you is the result of extensive research, many hours on the drawing board, and numerous 3D visualizations and 3D prints. The do88 Y-Pipe is the way to go for those bigger numbers when you want to eliminate all restrictions in the system, allowing for excellent airflow combined with low weight! The Y-Pipe is made of lightweight mandrel-bent tubing with a high-quality 3D-designed free-form cast joint between them. The jet manifold features CNC-machined connections for the BOV and vent pipes.
This construction adds a lot of performance but only a little extra weight. The do88 high-performance Y-Pipe weighs 1.52 kg (3.35 lb), the OEM plastic tube weighs 1.38 kg (3.04 lb), and a competitor’s cast performance tube comes in at 2.76 kg (6.08 lb). )!
As a finishing touch, the Y-pipe is coated with a high-quality powder coating that makes them look as good as they perform! You can choose between the more subtle semi-gloss black and a cool metallic silver finish.
Performance:
When it comes to performance, the do88 bigpack significantly reduces intake temperatures! The graph below shows the difference compared to the OEM 997.2 units. The data was collected with an AIM race recorder over 5 consecutive runs in immediate sequence. Full-throttle accelerations between 50 and 250 km/h (30-155 mph) in a Stage 1-tuned Porsche 997. No cooling in between, just maximum boost. During each test, the car was driven in Sport Plus mode with the air conditioning off.
The test was conducted as follows:
First, 5 laps were run with the car equipped with the OEM intercooler. Stop, quick swap of the do88 intercooler components. Shakedown for a few minutes, and then 5 passes performed exactly as with OEM parts. The decrease in inlet air temperature is significant, with a peak delta of 18Β°C ββ(32.4Β°F). See the graph below!
Cooling is important, as is airflow. After many hours of development, perfecting the final tanks, and choosing a core to meet our specifications, the result is a much more efficient intercooler in terms of heat transfer and airflow. Using our in-house SF-1020 Superflow test bench, the airflow is verified as a complete system with intercooler, hoses, and Y-pipe for both the DO88 bigpack and the OEM 997 units. What you see is what you get: true performance!
