Background
Enthusiasts of the classic Porsche 930 Turbo aim to tune their cars in style while preserving the original aesthetic that defines this iconic sports car. The intercooler, a highly visible component in the engine bay, and unfortunately, its appearance have often been a compromise for most aftermarket units. Many aftermarket options, with their boxy-looking sheet metal tanks, detract from the car’s elegance.
Our Solution
When designing our intercooler for the Porsche 930 Turbo, do88 aimed to retain the classic ’80s look while significantly improving performance. Our intercooler promises a substantial increase in cooling efficiency and reduced pressure drop, outperforming both the original and most aftermarket alternatives. We selected a Bar & Plate core known for its exceptional performance. The 90mm thick core with its densely packed fins ensures effective heat transfer and reduced pressure drop.
To ensure compatibility with the T26 (OE) and T27 (upgrade) turbos, we included two flexible silicone hoses, replacing the original aluminum charge tube between the turbo and the intercooler inlet.
The 930 Turbo’s large, heavy, and slow-acting diverter valve system is located between the intercooler and the throttle body, and its wear-and-tear components often cause common drivability issues and sluggish engine response. To address this issue, we designed a “Long-Neck” intercooler that eliminates the OE diverter valve. A long-neck intercooler design connects the intercooler outlet directly to the throttle body. This is a more efficient design, also used in the 930-S and 964 Turbo models. In our kit, we replace the bulky diverter valve with a modern GFB diverter valve for improved reliability and performance.
Our intercooler is also designed to fit the original trunk lid-mounted AC condenser, so removing the AC is not required.
This intercooler is the ideal choice for high-powered builds, meticulously engineered to fit without modifying your car. All hardware, such as brackets, screws, and hoses, is included in this kit.
Installation
Our intercooler is designed for direct fitment in all Porsche 930 3.3 Turbo models, making installation simple. Given the handcrafted nature of these cars, minor adjustments may be necessary in some cases to achieve the perfect fit. However, these adjustments are minimal, giving owners the ability to upgrade their cooling system without compromising the car’s classic look or the integrity of the installation process.
