Description

Upgrade your engine with the do88 charge pipe kit for the B58 Gen 2 found in the BMW M340i and more!

The B58 Gen 2 engine is fantastic, but it has a notorious reliability issue: the charge pipe. This pipe is notorious for being fragile and can break even on stock cars during track sessions. If you’re thinking about tuning your engine, we highly recommend upgrading the charge pipe first.

There are many aftermarket charge pipe kits available for the B58 engine, but in our opinion, most are poorly designed. Many competitors use a basic design: two pipes joined by a straight silicone hose and a reducer. They clearly haven’t understood the importance of managing thermal movement in this system. This design almost certainly causes problems with pipe bursting because it doesn’t allow for movement due to temperature changes. A common solution is to tighten the clamps more, but in most cases, this will break the pipes because it deforms the clamping surface.

But at do88, we’ve taken a different approach. It was clear to us that the system needed a flexible connection between the two hoses that could handle thermal expansion/contraction. Our solution is a 3-humped, aramid-reinforced silicone hose. This hose design allows for movement in any direction without bending or stressing the connections. To further strengthen our design, the hoses are equipped with CNC-machined 6063 hose connection ends with a 3mm wall thickness. These hose connections will not deform even with overtightened hose clamps.

Our charge pipes not only improve durability, but also, of course, improve performance. We designed our hoses with a larger diameter and smooth mandrel bends to improve performance. The lower hose measures 60mm (2 3/8”) and the upper hose 76mm (3”), effectively reducing pressure drop and reducing turbulence.

Our charge pipe, which connects to the throttle body via its CNC-machined flange, has two 1/8 NPT ports suitable for methanol injection or outputs such as a boost pressure sensor. We also provide two 1/8 NPT plugs for those who choose not to use these ports.

Important Notice

The available space for the charge pipe between the throttle body and the slam panel (the sheet metal portion positioned above the radiators) is very limited on the G-frame platform. In some cases, it may be necessary to grind the edge of this blanking panel a few millimeters to provide additional clearance for the DO88 charge pipe.

Features:

Hose connection between the upper and lower hoses allows for movement, preventing the hose from popping out.

Specially designed, 3-bumped silicone hose, reinforced with high-temperature-resistant aramid fabric and stainless steel outer rings.

High-quality Mikalor hose clamps included. These clamps feature an internal ring inside the clamp that prevents hose damage and evenly distributes clamp pressure around the hose.
Better airflow and less backpressure for your engine!
27% more airflow than OEM, with 558 CFM at 150 mbar (2.17 psi) versus OEM 439 CFM.
CNC-machined hose connections with an internal diameter matching the hose provide a secure hose clamping surface against deformation.
CNC-machined MAP sensor boss, turbo, and throttle body connections.
CNC-machined 1/8 NPT connections (2x) are perfect for methanol injection or as outlets, such as for the boost pressure sensor.
If ports are not used, two 1/8 NPT plugs are included.
60 mm (2 3/8″) and 76 mm (3″) mandrel-bent charge tubes coated with an elegant black powder coating.
Does not interfere with the engine cover.
Includes all hardware and instructions for complete installation.
