Background
The S58 engine in the 2021+ BMW G8X M2/M3/M4 models features a horizontally mounted oil cooler beneath the front center radiators. The original oil cooler has a Tube & Finn core, which is easily damaged by stone chips or other road debris. Due to its design and location, it’s not uncommon for the oil cooler to start leaking due to damage from small stones or other road debris. Such oil leaks can seriously damage the engine. With our do88 oil cooler, we offer a much more durable design and, of course, simultaneously improve cooling performance!
Our Solution
To accurately design our oil cooler, we performed a detailed 3D scan of the oil cooler mounting area. This scan provided us with a detailed space in which to design our DO88 oil cooler. We replaced the original Tube & Finn core with a more durable Bar & Plate core combined with TIG-welded aluminum reservoirs.
Our upgraded DO88 oil cooler helps your M2, M3, or M4 maintain proper oil temperatures both on the track and on the street. Our design increases the active cooling area (+14%) and core volume (57%) compared to the original oil cooler. The robust Bar & Plate core will resist road debris and stone chips much better and improve cooling performance.
