When designing a new intake system for a turbocharged engine, three critical factors are vital: filtration, airflow, and thermal management. Our do88 intake system is designed to optimize these elements, air filtration, improved airflow, and maintain low turbo inlet temperatures. The airbox design, including its shape, volume, and materials used in its construction, is precisely engineered to maximize airflow to the engine and thus improve performance.
High intake temperatures negatively impact engine performance, as turbochargers must generate boost using hotter, less dense air. Therefore, a fully sealed intake system is essential to minimize intake air temperatures (IAT). However, such a system presents a challenge due to its restrictive nature, as it relies solely on air intakes at the bottom of the filter boxes. During development, it became clear that to eliminate this restriction, the system needed an additional supply of fresh air. To address this, we added additional air intake vents behind the headlights on each side. To ensure sufficient air volume around the air filters, we designed large 7.8-inch air boxes, which also provide sufficient space for the CSL strut brace.
Replacing the stock plastic intake tubes, we designed large, smooth carbon fiber tubes. These start at 105 mm (4.1 inches) in diameter at the air filter end and taper seamlessly to 3.25 inches, matching our custom turbo intakes. Attached to our carbon tubes is our large, custom-designed air filter. This filter features a tightly woven cotton gauze that ensures clean airflow. Designed for durability and efficiency, the filter is washable and reusable, ensuring optimal performance and a long lifespan.
Our design stands apart from most aftermarket intake systems; we’ve taken it a step further by developing custom turbo intakes that replace the restrictive OE plastic intakes. Original Equipment (OE) intakes feature connection sizes of just 61 mm and 72 mm. In contrast, our custom cast aluminum turbo intakes feature significantly larger 83 mm connections. To ensure the versatility and longevity of our system, we’ve implemented an innovative adapter and sealing sleeve design. Our cast intakes offer a 53.6 mm opening to the compressor housing inlet sleeves, larger than the flow diameter of OE parts. We seal on the flat surface of the bolt flange, rather than the side of the tube insert. This design allows our turbo inlets to fit both OE and hybrid turbos, such as the Pure S58 STG2+ and TTE940, by including various sleeves that align with the internal diameter of the compressor housing and our turbo inlets, ensuring a perfect fit.

Filter Washable air filter for optimal performance and long life. We recommend cleaning the air filter every 20,000 km, using a universal cleaning product designed for cotton air filters. For example, you can use BMC washer fluid with the part number “WADET500”.
