Description

The complete charge air cooling solution for the Porsche 911 Carrera, -S, and -GTS
Bigpack: Intercooler and piping sold as a unit!

In addition to our intercooler kit, we also offer various other products for the Porsche 992. In this bigpack, we provide not only the intercoolers themselves, but also our intercooler piping and silicone hoses for improved airflow that will last!

If you ask us, this is the best intercooler kit you can get for this platform. We’ve left no stone unturned in our pursuit of maximum performance in every aspect of the system. The starting point is the cores from the renowned Garrett Motorsport; they’re incredibly well-crafted with thin, stacked fins, precisely tailored to our specifications for cooling and airflow. The end tanks are made of thin-walled cast aluminum to keep weight low while still utilizing airflow. To accommodate the thicker core, we replaced the air guides with the highest-quality carbon ducts! And to eliminate bottlenecks throughout the system, the intercooler connections are larger and feature DO88 silicone hoses designed with smooth, wide bends. We made no sacrifices or compromises during this developmentΒ—here are the results!

Key figures:
– Cooler inlet air temperature under the same conditions: 30Β°C / 86Β°F (39Β°C / 102.2Β°F). 9Β°C / (16.2Β°F) lower.
– More air to the engine, less backpressure, and better airflow!
– Airflow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 919 CFM (820 CFM), 12% more!
– High-density, motorsport-quality Bar & Plate cores from Garrett.
– 3D freeform cast end tanks.
– Custom carbon fiber ambient air guides.
– Supplied with high-quality silicone hoses and installation accessories.
– Intercooler outlet tank meth plugs (2x 1/8 NPT).
– Complete charge hose set containing powder-coated hoses, high-temperature silicone hoses, and top-quality hose clamps.

Background:
At the launch of the 992 generation, Porsche had already abandoned the naturally aspirated engine. From now on, all 911s are turbocharged, making this entry-level legend also attractive to those aiming for those bigger horsepower numbers. Each car model presents its own challenges and prerequisites. While the principle is the same as always, the intercooler system layout is completely new on this platform compared to previous Porsche 911s. Drawing on our knowledge and experience from previous developments, we sat down at the drawing board with equal amounts of trust and respect. As pioneers on this new platform, we understood we had to be very precise and forward-thinking. Today, we are proud of our achievements for the 992!

Previous versions of the Porsche 911 had intercoolers inside each rear fender, with a Y-pipe joining them both before the charge air reaches the intake manifold. The 992 has a completely different configuration. The intercooler and Y-pipe are now combined in a single unit located under the rear wing. Ambient air is forced through ducts from the rear window, into a scoop on the tailgate, and forward through the intercooler core for optimal heat transfer. The active rear wing is crucial to the core’s efficiency, directing more air into its vertical position. Looking at the construction from the side, this configuration actually makes more sense, but it’s also more challenging for us, a high-performance cooling manufacturer. To accommodate a core with greater volume and surface area, we had to develop new carbon ducts to accommodate the increased thickness. We’re thrilled to have taken our carbon fiber production to the next level with this product: the fit and finish is worthy of an icon like the 911!

Garrett Cores:
The cores are Bar & Plate, made by the renowned Garrett Motorsport. Frankly, they’re the best you can find. The thin, overlapping cooling fins create a dense construction, providing highly efficient heat transfer. The core measures 105 mm (4″), which is exactly the thickest possible for this application. Air is distributed throughout the core via freeform, cast end tanks. Designing them was a significant undertaking, requiring 3D scanning, CFD analysis, and 3D printing multiple times until we achieved a finished prototype. As usual, we chose to use cast end tanks because they allow for shapes that CNC machining cannot replicate, and for us, function always trumps form. Maximum airflow trumps the bling factor! The tanks are made with 70 mm (2.75″) machined connections to allow for high output. To match these larger connections, we also include flexible silicone hoses. Both cores are joined by a central outlet tank to the intake manifold, using machined connections and meth plugs.

Carbon fiber air ducts:
The air ducts are made of vacuum-infused pre-preg carbon fiber, and all parts feature mounting grooves for the air ducts, just like the OE parts. No matter how complex the shapes, we guarantee a perfect fit! The two upper air ducts are the same regardless of your car, but for the two lower pieces, there’s an option: Standard or SportDesign. The SportDesign features improved cooling air evacuation via an outlet in the center of the bumper. From a performance standpoint, the SportDesign is preferable, but we offer carbon fiber ducts for both versions. They feature appropriate rubber seals where necessary to prevent cooling air from escaping the core.

Aluminum piping:
We also include do88 intercooler hoses in the big pack, a distinctive upgrade that replaces the fragile OE hoses. Made from 63mm (2.5″) mandrel-bent aluminum tubing, finished with a tasteful satin black powder coat, they provide improved airflow and long-lasting durability. Included with the hoses are four silicone hoses, of which the turbo outlet pipes are made from a high-temperature material rated for a continuous temperature of 240Β°C (464Β°F). The hose clamps in this location are “constant tension” type, meaning they compensate for thermal expansion in the material.

Performance:
When it comes to performance, DO88 intercoolers significantly reduce intake temperature! The graph below the product images shows the difference compared to the OE 992 units. Data was collected with an AIM race recorder over 5 consecutive runs in a single shot on a closed airstrip. Full-throttle accelerations between 50-250 km/h (30-155 mph) performed on a Porsche 911. Carrera S (450 hp). Hard braking, no mid-range cooling, only full traction five times. The rear wing was always in its upper position.

The test was conducted as follows:
First, five runs were performed with the car equipped with the OE 992 intercoolers. Stop, quickly swap the parts with the DO88 intercoolers. Shakedown for a few minutes, and then five runs performed exactly the same way with the OE parts. The decrease in inlet air temperature is significant, with a peak delta of 9Β°C (16.2Β°F). See the graph under the product images!

Cooling is important, as is airflow. After many hours of development, perfecting the final tanks, and choosing a core to meet our requirements, the result is a much more efficient intercooler in terms of heat transfer and airflow. Using our in-house flow bench, the Superflow SF-1020 Probench, the airflow is verified for both the intercoolers do88 than for OE 992 units. What you see is what you get: real performance!
