The complete charge air cooling solution for the Porsche 911 (991.2) Turbo/S!
This kit comes at a flat rate and includes our motorsports intercooler and a high-flow Y-pipe with all hoses and installation hardware. To further improve engine breathing, you can purchase our compliant intake ducts along with these products.
The MERA intercooler kit and Y-pipe are excellent products on their own. Used together, they significantly reduce inlet temperature, resulting in lower backpressure throughout the system, and thus increased power.
– Cooler inlet air temperature under the same conditions: 37Β°C/98.6Β°F (55Β°C/131Β°F), 18Β°C/32.4Β°F lower. See diagram below the product images.
– More air to your engine, less backpressure, and better airflow!
– Airflow at 0.175 bar / 2.54 psi pressure drop: 835 CFM (607 CFM), 37% more! See diagram below product images.
– Premium, high-density motorsports Bar & Plate cores from Garrett.
– 3D-designed freeform cast end tanks.
– Custom-designed carbon fiber ambient air guides.
– Y-pipe made from 2.5″ (63mm) mandrel-bent aluminum tubing.
– Y-pipe made from a cast, sliding manifold part.
– The Y-pipe has two connections for methanol injection (1/8 – 27 NPT). The tube comes with blanking plugs for these connections.
– Comes with high-quality silicone hoses and installation accessories.
About intercoolers:
MERA stands for more, meaning more cooling, better airflow, more performance. Simply put, MERA!
When launching this intercooler kit in 2018, we chose to use a Tube & Fin core, which allows for excellent cooling and airflow combined with reduced weight. It has proven itself very well over the years, featured on various 1000 HP builds. Spring 2022 is the time for the next phase in the ongoing development of do88 products. After extensive testing, we have chosen to move to a Bar & Plate, a motorsport-grade Garrett core, taking this already highly effective upgrade to the next level.
Differences from our previous version:
13% more airflow than our previous version.
New, lighter air duct made of real prepreg carbon.
3.1 kg weight increase per intercooler compared to previous DO88 intercoolers.
The core is new, but the end tanks and all accessories are the same as before. The intercoolers feature cast-end tanks that distribute airflow very precisely across the entire core. This is very important since good tank design will benefit both pressure drop and cooling efficiency. To accommodate an intercooler of adequate thickness for the job, a new upper ambient air guide also had to be designed. This was designed in our 3D scanned environment to ensure a perfect fit with the air guides integrated into the vehicle, as well as the intercooler. To further eliminate the Bottlenecks, the intercooler connections are 70 mm (2 3/4 inches) to allow unrestricted airflow. This also means new pipes are included for each location, all 3D designed with maximum airflow in mind. All pipes are CFD tested to ensure this. The turbo outlet pipes are made of high-temperature-spec material, rated at a continuous temperature of 240Β°C (464Β°F). To truly utilize all the heat-transferring ambient air, the carbon ducts are equipped with appropriate seals to the body, forcing all the air to pass through the core and not leak around it.
Overall, the weight increase over the OEM units is relatively small considering the intercoolers’ size and the fact that they are a dense, all-aluminum construction. Our intercooler weighs 8.5 kg (18.74 lb) per piece, and the OEM 991 intercooler weighs 3.10 kg (6.83 lb). per piece. While this may seem like a weight gain, it’s more than compensated for by the performance gains these intercoolers provide!
About the Y-Pipe:
At the beginning of the development process for this product, we spent a lot of time considering the preferred way to build a Y-Pipe, and here’s the result of our conclusions and development process! Our pipes have both very good flow and low weight, which is achieved by assembling lightweight mandrel-bent tubes with a high-quality 3D freeform cast joint between them. We then welded the CNC-machined connections for the BOV and vent pipes onto the cast part.
This construction adds a lot of performance but only a little extra weight.
Performance:
When it comes to performance, the DO88 bigpack significantly reduces intake temperature! The graph below shows the difference compared to the OEM 991 units. The data was collected with an AIM race recorder over 5 consecutive runs in immediate sequence. Full-throttle accelerations between 50 and 250 rpm km/h (30-155 mph) in a Stage 1-tuned Porsche 991. No cooling in between, just maximum boost. During each test, the car was driven in Sport Plus mode, with the air conditioning off.
The test was conducted as follows:
First, 5 laps were run with the car equipped with the OEM intercooler. Stop, quick swap of the DO88 intercooler components. Shakedown for a few minutes, and then 5 passes were performed exactly as with the OEM parts. The decrease in inlet air temperature is significant, with a peak delta of 17Β°C (30.6Β°F)Βsee the graph below!
Cooling is important, as is airflow. After many hours of development, fine-tuning the final tanks, and choosing a core to meet our requirements, the result is a much more efficient intercooler in terms of heat transfer and airflow. Using our in-house SF-1020 Superflow test bench, airflow is verified as a complete system with intercooler, hoses and Y-pipe for both the do88 bigpack and the OEM 991 units. What you see is what you get: real performance!
